Reproductive Rights in NSW
Abortion is still a criminal offense in NSW. The recent introduction of Zoe's Law 2 (Crimes Amendment Bill (No.2) has raised the issue of granting foetal personhood to a foetus aged 20 weeks. For more information about background of this bill, who introduced it and why, read this excellent, informative and clear piece by Jenny Noyes: On Zoe’s Law, And The Accidental/On Purpose Erosion Of Your Reproductive Rights
Many women's groups have protested this private members bill, which is to be debated this year in the upper house of Parliament. If you would like to get involved in preventing this bill and supporting women's reproductive rights, click here to find out how.
Real Men Wear Pink
The Sydney Feminists' Secretary, Joseph Salemi, has taken up the challenge of raising $2000 for the Real Men Wear Pink campaign, a fundraising initiative of the National Breast Cancer Foundation. If he reaches his target, he will wear pink for a month in his workplace. Joe works as an engineer with many macho men at a factory in Sydney. Wearing bright pink in such a setting will certainly attract attention - which is precisely what he wants to do! Raising awareness about breast cancer, as well as securing donations, is the point of this campaign. Joe has risen to the challenge - will you support him?
